PayProp sponsored and spoke at a sell-out Scottish Lettings Day at the home of Scottish rugby, Murrayfield Stadium, on 8 November 2023. The event brought together landlords and letting agents for the first time since 2019 to discuss the latest developments in the Scottish private rented sector.

During his address, PayProp's Managing Director Neil Cobbold said, “The industry is under pressure from a lack of stock, but for agents there are plenty of opportunities to target self-managing landlords who take on the stresses and strains of lettings without any support from agents. By refining their approach towards such landlords, agencies can take them on a journey and build a relationship that ultimately ends in a fully-managed listing.”

As part of Cobbold’s talk on how to attract more self-managing landlords, he shared practical implementation guides, psychological insights into the process, and helpful templates designed to help Scottish agents win more landlords.

Informative talks

Other sessions, hosted by The Scottish Association of Landlords (SAL), covered regulation, education, energy efficiency, business development and an update on the latest legal challenge to the Scottish government’s rent control policy.

The event was attended by approximately 700 letting agents and landlords, selling out the stadium venue.

The line-up of speakers included, among others, Claire Mullen from TC Young Solicitors, Anna Evans from Indigo House, and Gail Bowden and Caroline Elgar from SAL. Their talks ranged from the recent judicial review into the Cost of Living (Tenant Protection) (Scotland) Act 2022 to the comprehensive RentBetter research into the Scottish private rented sector, funded by the Nationwide Foundation, and how to get a handle on property repairs, respectively.

A valuable day for the industry

Cobbold said PayProp is delighted to sponsor Scottish Lettings Day.

“While the industry is facing economic and legislative headwinds, the day gave all in attendance an opportunity to discover the great work being done by many organisations to improve the industry for tenants, landlords and agents”.
