More than a year since the world went into lockdown, the effects of COVID-19 can still be seen and felt in the South African rental market.

In this issue of the PayProp Rental Index, we assess the ongoing impact of COVID-19 on national and provincial rent prices since the beginning of 2020, while also looking back on rental growth over the long term.

In addition, we examine the financial behaviour of tenants in different risk categories across various income and debt metrics. In a market where everyone is struggling to find good tenants, it pays to know what to look for!

You can also read our thoughts about the importance of trust fund separation, our preparations for POPIA measures, and a client’s story about simplifying her property management processes with PayProp.
